こんな特徴

沈丁花はジンチョウゲ科ジンチョウゲ属の常緑低木。香り高い花を咲かせる春の樹木です。春の沈丁花ジンチョウゲ、夏の梔子クチナシ、秋の金木犀キンモクセイを合わせて三大香木と称されます。沈丁花は、雌雄異株しゆういしゅの植物です。花びらのように見えるのは、肉厚の萼がくです。花持ちがよいのはこのためです。

管理

水はけのよい土を選びます。寒さにやや弱いため、東北から南の地域でのみ、地植えで育てることができます。基本的に地植えしている場合には水やりは不要です。根元の土が乾いている時に水やりをします。鉢植えの場合には、土の表面が乾いた時に水やりをします。
