ランタナは熱帯地方原産の花で、小さな花が集まって手毬状に咲きます。
花がなくても楽しめる葉に斑が入った品種もあります。開花期間が長く、丈夫なので鉢物としてよく流通するほか、花壇などにも利用されます。寒さにも比較的強いので、暖かい地域では冬越しも可能です。
茎葉には細かいトゲがあり触るとチクチクします。葉っぱも触り心地は表面がざらついています。
ランタナは繫殖力が強く「世界の侵略的外来種ワースト100」に選ばれ、温暖な地域暖や熱帯地域では植えるとどんどん繁殖していきます。
種には「ランタニン」という毒が含まれています。実には甘みがありますが、中の種を食べると腹痛や下痢、呼吸困難、最悪の場合は死に至る可能性もあります。
鳥は実を食べますが、種を消化しない為、問題なく遠い地に運べます。
また、種には「アレロパシー物質」という他の植物が成長しないようにする成分もあります。
管 理
日当たりと水はけのよい場所に植え、寒地では晩秋に鉢上げし、冬は室内に取り込みます。鉢植えも年間を通して日に当てるようにします。

Lantana has strong fertility and has been selected as one of the “100 Worst Invasive Alien Species in the World”, and when planted in warm regions and tropical regions, it will breed more and more.
The seed contains a poison called “lantanin”. It’s actually sweet, but eating the seeds inside can cause abdominal pain, diarrhea, respiratory distress, and in the worst case, death, so you should never eat it.
Birds eat fruit, but because they do not digest the seeds, they can be transported to distant places without problems.
