こんな特徴

カモミールは薬用植物で、「植物のお医者さん」といわれることもあり、江戸時代にオランダから渡来しました。小菊に似た白い花はリンゴのような甘い香りがします。開花が進むにつれ中心の黄色い部分が盛り上がります。

カモミールは世界中に分布しており、種類には一年草の「ジャーマンカモミール」と、多年草の「ローマンカモミール」の他に、花が咲かない「ノンフラワーカモミール」や黄色い花の「ダイヤーズカモミール」があります。

花を乾燥させて、ハーブティーとして利用します。ハーブティーとして楽しめるのは、ジャーマン種です。

管理

毎年花が咲き、丈夫で、栽培は容易です。一般的に、秋に日当たりと水はけのよい場所に直まきします。寒地では春まきします。ポット苗の場合は根鉢を崩さずに植えます。アブラムシにも注意が必要です。
