こんな特徴です

古い時代に中国から渡来したといわれる球根植物。日本では人里近くの山野、草地、道端などに自生します。ヒガンバナの仲間で「夏に咲くスイセン」という意味ではなく、葉がスイセンに似ていることから付きました。

ナツズイセンはリコリス・スプレンゲリ（Lycoris sprengeri）とリコリス・ストラーミネア（Lycoris straminea）もしくはインカルナタ(タヌキノカミソリ)(Lycoris incarnata）の自然交雑種といわれています。

葉と花は同時に見られません

早春に球根から帯状の葉を出して、30cm～50cmに伸びます。夏前に葉はすべて枯れてしまいます。

ナツズイセンの花期は８月。
真夏になると、地面から花茎を真っすぐに伸ばして、ピンクの花を数輪まとまって咲かせます。花は付け根先端が6裂してラッパ状に大きく開きます。一本の花茎には6～7輪の花が咲きます。

開花時に葉がないため、ハダカユリともいいます。なにもない地面からいきなり花が咲いたように見えることから、英名のマジック・リリー(magic lily)やリザレクション・リリー(resurrection lily)とも呼ばれます。

球根にはリコリンという有毒成分を含んでいます。

Lycoris squamigera

A bulbous plant that is said to have come from China in the old days. In Japan, it grows naturally in mountains, grasslands, and roadsides near human settlements. It is a member of the cluster amaryllis and does not mean “summer blooming daffodils”, but because the leaves resemble daffodils.

Surprise lily is said to be a natural hybrid of Lycoris sprengeri and Lycoris straminea or Lycoris incarnata.
In early spring, the bulbs produce strip-shaped leaves that grow to 30 cm to 50 cm. All the leaves die before summer.

The flowering season of Surprise lily is August.
In midsummer, the flower stalks are straightened from the ground and several pink flowers come together. The tip of the flower splits into 6 and opens wide like a trumpet. Six to seven flowers bloom on one flower stem.

It is also called magic lily or resurrection lily because it has no leaves at the time of flowering.

Bulbs contain a toxic component called lycorine.
